That said, those reports have yet to be officially addressed, so fans should remain guarded for now. Furthermore, reports surfaced in early February 2020 that Warner Bros had approved Mad Max: The Wasteland, and that the sequel could begin filming in Australia as early as this fall. That is until summer 2019, when Miller expressed confidence that another Mad Max sequel would indeed happen, and made it known that relations between himself and Warner Bros had thawed since the purchase of that company by AT&T. The Mad Max franchise will always be iconic, but realistically, the prospects for Mad Max: The Wasteland looked bleak for a long time. Even if an amicable settlement is reached its easy to imagine a scenario where Miller decides not to return than work with the studio again. Both sides have locked horns over this issue and neither one is backing down. The studio counters their contract was for a 100-minute, PG-13 film, while Miller turned in a 120-minute R-rated one, and the movie exceeded its budget because of unapproved costs and delays on the side of Miller's company. Miller says it did, but the studio insisted on expensive reshoots – that added back sequences that were previously cut due to costs – and this inflated the final budget to over $185M. Miller’s company was set to receive a $9 million bonus if the production budget came in under $157M. It turns out Miller’s production company and Warner Bros fell into a dispute over an unpaid bonus following the release of Mad Max: Fury Road. Sadly, this is where studio politics come into play. Fury Road's Director Wants To Make Mad Max: The Wasteland The film was also a solid hit for an R-rated action movie - at the box office and, surprisingly, the Oscars - but despite this, studio politics have slammed the brakes on the series for now. It may have been a long ride but Mad Max: Fury Road was met with universal acclaim when it arrived, and is regarded by many as far and away the best of the franchise. The film was gearing up to shoot in 2003 with Mel Gibson returning, but this production was canceled following the outbreak of the Iraq war and resulting security concerns over its planned Namibian shoot. Since there's speculation that Furiosa will feature a major conflict between Dementus and Immortan Joe in the past, Burke might be seen facing off against Chris Hemsworth, provided the Thor star is actually taking on the role of Immortan Joe in the film. Before the script was even written, Miller had Fury Road extensively storyboarded as he wanted the narrative to function almost without dialogue. Burke is most recognized for his performances as Athos in the 2014–2016 BBC series The Musketeers and Dolokhov in the 2016 BBC miniseries War & Peace, which was an adaptation of the classic novel. He is the mighty Biker Horde's leader and a warlord of the Wasteland who kidnaps the future Imperator Furiosa from Green Place. According to reports, Burke might play the warlord adversary Dementus. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was initially set to join the cast but he left the production in November 2021 due to a scheduling conflict and was replaced by Tom Burke. Hemsworth also has another exciting action movie coming before Furiosa, Extraction 2, another one of his hit non-MCU films, set for a release in 2023. There's no doubt that Furiosa will be an iconic film for fans as Hemsworth will be seen stepping out of his usual MCU character. There are chances that he will be seen as a young Immortan Joe or Dementus. Though it is still unclear which character will be portrayed by Hemsworth, fans are eager to see the pair on the big screen. MCU star Chris Hemsworth is also starring in the film and will reportedly play the villain.
